DIG THE TSWYZA SHOW WITH A GOLDEN SHOVEL - EPISODE 15 OF RAP DIALOG

There has been many discussions about the state of South African hip-hop in recent times, but the series of conversations that matter the most are regularly found on The Tswyza Show.

Kope Makgae, who’s popularly known by his stage name, Tswyza, has hosted a variety of renowned lyricists such as Berry Jive, Ifani, Kane Keid, Landrose, Mo Molemi, Music Majur, Nomfundo Yekani, N’Veigh, PdotO, Pitch Black Afro, Ta Longz, Touchline, Zakwe and Zulu Mecca on his revolutionary platform since August 2024.

He holds interviews in a rap form, and his latest guest is Golden Shovel of Optical Illusion fame. The legendary wordsmith from Sebokeng is a monumental figure in hip-hop after decades of acquiring street cred and building industry relevance. When questions are posed in metaphors, punchlines and rhymes, he becomes the ideal candidate to eloquently provide all the correct answers.

The aforementioned episode started with Tswyza exhibiting his versatility once more by using a style of rap that made him sound like a ghost member of Optical illusion. His powerful opening was followed by an equally strong response from Golden Shovel. In a show that is powered by Telkom, the two lyricists connected well over abstract questions and creative answers.

Golden Shovel ignored the cameras and painted his own picture. He started by ingeniously using all the names of his former crew members in a creative manner to highlight their capabilities, impact, legacy and subsequently, their disbanding. It is from this constituent of his response that the audience can learn that although the crew members ultimately separated, they played a pivotal role in uniting hip-hop fans across the country through beats that were pleasant to the ear, and lyrics that spoke to the soul.

He proceeded to provide Insightful lessons about politics, and the challenges that people of colour face, particularly in the so-called rainbow nation. He addressed the structural violence that has left multitudes of people with internal scars and physical bruises. From this assertion, the audience can surmise that Golden Shovel is a man of culture – a black man who addresses black struggles in an art form that is relevant to the black youth.

What followed was his immaculately layered narration of his current reality as a family man who is still baying for blood on the microphone, an MC who is in the business of corporate events, a real life hero who dabbles in acting, and a storyteller who composes theme songs.

It was a fascinating story of a raw lyricist with a polished image – a man who paved the way for others by running the track.
Episode 15 of The Tswyza Show reminded South Africans that Stephen Msibi is a golden shovel with a silver tongue.
